Frequently asked questions
General
Do not attempt to remove it yourself, as ghost gear can be incredibly heavy and dangerous to handle. Instead, note down the exact location (GPS coordinates if possible), the depth if you were diving, and take a photo if it is safe to do so. You can then report these details directly to us via the Report Ghost Gear form on our website so our team can map it for a planned recovery.
No. While both organisations work to protect the Irish marine ecosystem from abandoned fishing gear, Ghost Nets Ireland and Ghost Diving Ireland are completely separate and independent entities. We are a distinct, Irish-based organisation operating out of Dún Laoghaire, and we are not affiliated with any international chapters or foundations.
We are always looking for skilled divers to join our team. Because ghost net recovery is highly specialised and carries unique risks, all our active recovery divers must hold advanced qualifications and complete specific ghost net recovery training. You can get in touch with us through our contact page to discuss our current training requirements and upcoming dive plans.
